And yet it moves fates warning1/11/2024 All that was left was to adapt the spacier material of X, Disconnected, and A Pleasant Shade of Gray to an ensemble that no longer relied on electronics in the live setting. With the unabashedly metal Bobby Jarzombek (ex- Halford, Riot, et al) behind the kit, Jim Matheos and crew redefined the Fates Warning sound yet again, to absolutely crushing effect. That dedication has been on full, unambiguous display for over twenty years, but particularly since Fates Warning broke their nine-year studio silence with 2013’s Darkness in a Different Light, an unapologetically metallic assault that decisively shut the traps of naysayers who complained of the dreamlike ambiance that former drummer Mark Zonder and longtime collaborator Kevin Moore (yes, that Kevin Moore) had woven into the Fates Warning sound over the previous three records. A unit that routinely cranks out material as meritorious as it is multifarious, these Connecticut exiles owe their longevity and enduring relevance to mastery of their craft, stylistic flexibility, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. If Darkness In A Different Light isn't in your Top X of 2013 list at the end of the year, there may be something fundamentally wrong with you.I will never tire of saying how lucky we are to exist in the same world as Fates Warning. They've been on the uptrend since the "pretty good" A Pleasant Shade of Gray in 1997 (which might seem like long ago, but there's only been two other albums between that and Darkness In A Different Light) and Darkness In A Different Light only showcases a band that has gotten better with time. So where does the album fit into the canon of Fates Warning? To be blunt, right at the top of their game. Even the heavier moments aren't chock-full of things going on there's room to breathe, which means (to me at least) the whole record has a certain airy quality about it that's just… so well done. Even in verses of songs "Firefly" there are undertones of clean guitars… but back to heavy for a minute, because it's about to make sense. In an obvious sense, songs like "Falling" are acoustic, while the end of "Into the Black" and pieces of "And Yet It Moves" utilize some clean guitars and rhythm-section heavy moments. While the record has been described as heavy, there's an extremely atmospheric quality to it as well. The nice thing about Darkness In A Different Light is that it flows like a record that was written with a certain tonality in mind trying to get a point across and really nailing it with different moods. Even the fourteen-minute closer "And Yet It Moves" is filled with nothing but composure and musicianship, which is… well, awesome, as the tendency to put the long track last in the realm of the genre is essentially free reign to get the wank out. What Fates Warning have done is composed a heavy album in the name of really, really solid progressive music that never oversteps its boundaries or tries to be flashy beyond the point of enjoyability. It's a solid kind of heavy though, in that there's no one trying to out-play the other for the sake of a harder tone, nor are there needless solos strewn all over the place because "it's progressive, man." No. Between the sick riffing of Jim Matheos and Frank Aresti, and the unbelievably tight-and-massive rhythm section of drummer Bobby Jarzombek and bassist Frank Aresti, there's almost no stopping this record from being monolithic in terms of writing and playing. Right from the get-go of "One Thousand Fireflies," Fates Warning mean business with the heavy and pretty consistently keep it up throughout the album.

Tokyo fried chicken math1/11/2024 The meat of jidori chickens, first and foremost, varies widely depending on the cut and preparation method.įrom here, we’ll be following the parts numbered in the illustration above in order, and explaining the various characteristics of each part. However, as chicken meat is not graded, there are instead three varieties depending on the age of the chickens and their quality, namely “wakadori” (ready for consumption seven to eight weeks after birth), “meigara-dori”, and “jidori”.ĭue to the strict agricultural conditions, only 1% of the chickens in Japan meet the requirement, making it a high-quality ingredient. The reason is that while cows are raised for fourteen to twenty months, and pigs for about six months, chickens are raised for a relatively shorter period, and broiler chickens, in particular, have no distinct differences, and as such, it is difficult to judge the quality. Raised and bred under such strict conditions, the meat is chewy with various unique flavors.Īnd, unlike beef or pork, there is no grading system for chicken meat. There are set Japanese Agricultural Standards for the chickens too. On top of this, the chickens are bred under specific conditions, only ready for consumption at least 75 days after the hatching date, and from 28 days after hatching, they have to be raised as free-roam chickens, with less than 10 chickens per square-meter of land. The standard for determining the jidori standard for chickens stems from the Meiji era (1868-1912), from the 38 breeds of chicken that have existed since that era, and at least 50% of bloodline from jidori chickens have to come from those varieties, with a certificate of birth to boot. Jidori chicken is different from regular broiler chickens and “Meigara-dori”, or branded chickens, which are broiler chickens bred for a specific flavor that are rare and pricey, but are chickens bred and raised in a specific area. Usage geodist (dat, inf.replaceInf, count.pathsTRUE, predecessorsFALSE, ignore.evalTRUE, na.omitTRUE) Arguments dat one or more input graphs. Where geodesics do not exist, the value in inf.replace is substituted for the distance in question. Note that I kept things simple and did not address how to define a range of bearings that cross over the 360/0 degrees. Description geodist uses a BFS to find the number and lengths of geodesics between all nodes of dat. To illustrate what's going on, I project the coordinates and create a map. From there, you can decide that points that are within a certain range of bearings around the wind direction (and within a certain distance) fall within the plume. The first step to a solution is to form all pairwise combinations of polluters with points of interests and then calculate the distance and initial bearing. Save "points.dta", replaceNeither geodist nor geonear (both from SSC) calculate bearings between points but the formula for the initial bearing can be found on this excellent web site by Chris Veness. The first includes two "polluter" locations and a wind direction (in degrees, north is 0) for each. You can then use basic trig to calculate distances and slopes.īefore trying to formulate a solution using geographic coordinates, I will create two demonstration datasets. The package provides data on countries and their main city or agglomeration and the different distance measures and dummy variables indicating whether two countries are contiguous, share a common language or a. If you use the default projection (Web Mercator), you will be working with a map where lines of constant bearing are represented as straight lines. The goal of geodist is to provide the same data from GeoDist ready to be used in R (i.e. You can sidestep the issue by converting geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) to planar coordinates using geo2xy (from SSC). Conversely, if you travel in a straight line using the shortest path between two points, your bearing will constantly change as you make progress towards your destination. You can follow a line of constant bearing (using a compass) but that's not the shortest path unless you are headed due North or South. The concept of direction is a also a bit difficult to grasp when it relates to geographic coordinates. The names are correct in the sense that, for instance, the (1,1) element is the sum across the observations of squares of weight and the (2,1) element is the sum of the product of weight and foreign. This sounds pretty complicated to achieve and I have no suggestion on how to go about creating such polygons. matrix accum forms X0X matrices from data and sets the row and column names to the variable names used. geodist calculates geographical distances by measuring the length of the shortest path between two points along the surface of a mathematical model of the earth. You would then use geoinpoly (from SSC) to identify points of interest that fall within these plume polygons. Presumably, time affects the progression and expansion of pollution plumes so intuitively, a solution would most likely require forming polygons that define the borders of each plume. I'm a bit reluctant to give advice because the vagueness on what should be considered downwind from the pollution source. It is freed from your projecting really worth. The Alpine region has a strong cultural identity. The 18th and 19th centuries saw an influx of naturalists, writers, and artists, in particular, the Romantics, followed by the golden age of alpinism as mountaineers began to ascend the peaks. Fish hopper1/11/2024 Fish know where they hit the water and they’ll congregate in anticipation. It’s important to fish hopper patterns where they spend time. For many people, this is something they don’t want, but for fly anglers, it brings a smile to our face. You’ll start to see hoppers attach to your waders or jump along your legs. These streams are commonly found in the Driftless Region in the Midwest and spread throughout Wyoming and Montana. They don’t have the strength to fight their way upwind throughout the day.Īlso, floodplains and hay fields are extremely common areas for hoppers to live.
